Taste the Northern summer in restaurant Kaltio!

In the summer of Lapland, you can pause and
savour the moment: the endless light of the
midnight sun, the scent of the forest, the
sparkle of crystal-clear waters, and nature’s
own harvest season. All of these have also inspired the summer menu at restaurant Kaltio, one of the best in Saariselkä.

Our restaurant in Saariselkä invites you to enjoy the pearls of northern food culture and carefully planned flavour experiences, with wine pairings crafted by our professionals. Each dish tells a little story of northern life and the ingredients that have shaped the Lappish food culture for generations. And we haven’t forgotten the little dinner guests either, and the children’s menu also offers pure Lapland flavors and little ones’ favorites.

The appetizers include ingredients such as mushrooms, crayfish and reindeer, and of course the restaurant’s classic Kaltio’s fish selection, which takes diners to the clear waters of the north for a moment.

And what would a trip to Lapland be without a tasty sautéed reindeer, traditionally served with soft mashed potatoes, pickles and lingonberries. In addition to reindeer, in the heart of the Inari culinary tradition is the catch caught from local lakes, and in Kaltio we serve local fish with new harvest potatoes, a rich mushroom sauce and seasonal vegetables. The reindeer and fish in the dishes are local food, and that is a matter of honor for us.

Dessert crowns the whole evening, and in the summertime we of course enjoy the gold of the north, cloudberries, or crème brûlée with a northern twist, bringing a little international touch to the meal.

For years, Kaltio has been offering delicious, passionately prepared food to Saariselkä tourists and locals, and the world’s oldest gastronomic organization, Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, has awarded our restaurant the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs recognition. The recognition is a symbol of a place that represents the best in its category, with a high level of classical gastronomy expertise, good wines, excellent price-quality ratio, great service and respect for national ingredients, without forgetting the culinary trends and its own touch. The label has been awarded to only about 80 restaurants in Finland.
